The R5 provides critical communication in a wide range of situations, from aiding efficient deliveries to helping emergency services deal with a major incident.
By way of illustration, let’s imagine a scenario where there has been a massive traffic pile-up on a motorway, involving multiple vehicles and possible casualties.
Police
The control centre sends geographical mapping data to the R5 of the police unit closest to the incident location. The R5 uses W3W and Google mapping technology, which pinpoints locations with an accuracy of three meters. Attending officers can also see the location of other officers in the vicinity, should they need urgent backup.
Google Translate can be enabled on the R5, so that officers can clearly communicate with the local community in several languages, if needed.
The R5 provides Internet connectivity around the vehicle through a Wi-Fi hotspot. This allows users with less powerful devices to engage in critical communications without disruption.
Fire
Dispatch information is sent by the control room operator to the R5 integrated into attending fire appliances and is accepted by the commander as soon as the vehicle is crewed. The commander can then choose the best route available via Google Maps, with live traffic updates speeding up the response to the incident.
As soon as fire crews reach the incident site, they can access vital crash data on the vehicles housing trapped passengers. This will help them decide how best to cut into each vehicle and save lives. They’ll also have accurate data about the location of fire hydrants and gas mains, enabling them to extinguish fires quickly and safely.
Incidents like this create hazardous conditions for firefighters. As the screen is IP rated, the R5 can withstand high temperatures, excess water, and rough handling, so the users can do their job without having to worry about damaging their equipment.
Ambulance
The control room dispatches a W3W address to the R5 – along with details of the type of incident, number of casualties and type of injury – so the paramedics are fully prepared when they arrive at the scene. When patients are transferred to the ambulance treatment area, the paramedic puts on their wireless Bluetooth headset to enabling handsfree communications with the medical specialist in the control room. With both hands free, the paramedic can respond to advice and treat the patient.
